Opening Day, Frontier Field, Rochester Red Wings AAA baseball [of the Minnesota Twins]
Chilly... even our would-be tour director Steve Smith bailed. Pussy! Maybe 8 of us truebloods showed up in 39F temps for the ceremonially civic dog-and-pony show. After the Mayor, after the County Executive, after the flag waving, after the wounded police officer beating all odds to throw out the semi-first pitch, etc, we finally got around to honoring some old git who hadn't received his Purple Heart commedation back during "The Big One". I salute you, citizen!!
Speaking of dogs, Rochester's "white hot" was out in all its glory, slathered in mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, etc. Opening Day [and most other games] are equally about taste and aroma.
Oh, the game... it was well played, regardless of temps dropping to 37F. Wings blew a lead, but broke the tie in the 8th to hold on.
After any game, it's fun to stop by Knuckles Knockout Grill. Working the beer tap is 'Stina. Her mom calls her Christina, but truth is, 'Stina's all grown up. I know, I know, my Motorola RAZR camera phone sucks.Labels: 'Stina, Frontier Field, Knuckles, Pawtucket, Red Wings, Rochester, white hot
