Occasionly, he shares a worldly anecdote like the one below:

There's some new competition on the shelf. India's Hindu nationalist movement is launching a new soft drink made from cow urine. The bovine brew is in the final stages of development by the Cow Protection Department of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), India's biggest and oldest Hindu nationalist group, according to the man who makes it. Om Prakash, the head of the department, said the drink - called "gaujal" or "cow water" in Sanskrit - was under going laboratory tests and would be launched very soon, maybe by the end of this year. "Don't worry, it won't smell like urine and will be tasty too", he told the Times of London from his headquarters in Hardwar, one of four holy cities on the River Ganges. "Its USP will be that it's going to be very healthy. It won't be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins". The drink is the latest attempt by the RSS - which was founded in 1925 and now claims 8 million members - to cleanse India of foreign influence and promote its ideology of Hindutva, or Hindu-ness.

BTW, I can think of easier ways for India to cleanse foreign influence:
1. Refuse all foreign aid and military equipment
2. Recall all citizens home
3. Build a big wall around India.

Gotta be easier than drinking cow pee.OJ_Audet @ HotMail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07747495798559651459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3362228.post-39539007625987185092009-02-04T23:54:00.003-05:002009-02-05T00:18:08.729-05:00Change is coming down the road...

[horkulated.com]OJ_Audet @ HotMail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07747495798559651459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3362228.post-33827326551896277192009-01-25T23:32:00.007-05:002009-01-26T23:13:38.450-05:00Come on <s>down</s> line, you're the next contestant...

Play in a new online game show [if you're in the US and have broadband]. The 105-year-old hotel was one of nine sites attacked by gunmen in a 60-hour wave of terror that killed at least 183 people and injured hundreds more before it ended in a standoff at the hotel Saturday morning.

The hotel is owned by the Tata Group, one of India's largest and most successful conglomerates. Chairman Ratan Tata, a venerable icon in India, is quoted: "... the attacks revealed deficiencies in law enforcement, especially in the areas of crisis response and management. We were getting the cooperation that they could give us, but the infrastructure was woefully poor. It took three hours for firefighters to get water to the Taj after a blaze broke out in the oldest part of the building. We had people who died being shot through bulletproof vests."

After spending much of 2001-2005 in India, I'm prompted to several questions:
1. The Taj is a 5-star hotel, the highest level in India. Politicians, Bollywood stars and corporate heads [including call centre owners] would stay there. If water is unavailable at the Taj, where is it available? I've been saying for years that India is heading for civil unrest [if not open hostility] over water.
2. Where were the bulletproof vests made? India or outsourced? India has a huge corruption issue with government awards and contracts.

As an aside, concerns and best wishes go to call centre underling Mark D. who this past week was put into a 3-star Indian hotel. In case of fire, I hope there's water. We've already heard you don't have hot water, phone, or Internet connection ;^(OJ_Audet @ HotMail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07747495798559651459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3362228.post-27410074514099902852008-10-06T19:10:00.007-04:002008-10-11T01:22:34.468-04:00Back home in Rochester, NY

...after continuing the scooter ride from Georgia thru
Tennessee [Deal's Gap motorcycle run]
North Carolina [Blue Ridge Parkway]
and a 2 day interState shot thru
Virginia
West Virginia
Pennsylvania
New York.

Yesterday's last ride was chilly, but the entire 3 weeks were without rain.

Getting back to the chronological sequence of my trip, here's a few more pix:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_xWEaEqCgJBeT9AfRTpGW1aWQt88F4IdH-rDYbfM4hsaJ5Un8Q5qDpYO1jYQCoxcG9KKBDDkjYoL6YGwI5JnBW78IS5zgRSWd1n_Bx2LjiqRABtDlqjQUmiQOTVn9GpBKPZo6/s200/100_1794.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254189202785971618" />

On my 2nd day out, I rode from Fort Wayne, Indiana to the southernmost point of Illinois where the Ohio River meets the Mississippi River [405 miles]. Motels were scarce and the sun had set, not good when you're on a scooter during deer rut, so I stopped at the first motel I found. Regardless of how you and I pronounce the city of Vienna, Illinois, the locals call it "Vye-enna". For dinner, the motel recommended either a sloppy burger across the street or Mexican down the road. I had seen the latter on my way in and couldn't resist their assurance to disprove the roach coach mystique. The entrepreneur, himself hecho en Mexico, but 10 years removed, suggested the grilled steak burrito which was muy delish and enough to feed a whole lot of produce pickers [let alone one overweight gringo biker]. Did I mention he had Mexican soda? Pineapple!

Yes, that's my scooter ['02 Honda Shadow ACE] with pillion bag/backrest.

The motel also recommended that I start the next morning's ride with a short detour to Metropolis... home of my late 1950's hero:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDUCAYhvdcw4gnCzv86dlbHwaIXcA0rPmiqziQl8QMLgdIp0HWmy7AXNcxKHmtwFhL5E79Yve2_2Rei1omlZSY9f679hu8hXFEqOeRnI06DJtjk06G-sfkT21XCbUoQ6L7Nc-k/s200/100_1798.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254238783590594562" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkGSayUS5SzINraPQeaGAU3WTZJmBWD8XEgk9VRboE0XtrdYR9yzqzFRQaDLxCyihu2gMZZI-XtTXRSbg8I1b5szcJ7gqyvVfoPAiGe8a8_6DaykNTWwKlMXzxjGDUmepk2jBa/s200/100_1800.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254238789375412722" />OJ_Audet @ HotMail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07747495798559651459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3362228.post-75225683369582061712008-10-02T21:36:00.008-04:002008-10-11T00:42:54.541-04:00Where's Waldo?
